Community Energy Generation Feasibility Study 2024/25

Funding from CARES allowed us to commission local firm VOAR Energy ltd to study potential community energy generation projects for Bressay. This involved a number of engagement evenings, these gave us a good idea of what the community might like to see, potential sites, likely generation potential and how any future project might help bolster our island's resiliance and benefit those living here. The final draft, available below, considers a number of options for BDL and the wider community to consider investigating further.

Draft report

Speldiburn Green energy and heating project 2020-21

Plans are well advanced for a new heating system which will cut BDL's CO2 emmissions, reduce our heating costs and ensure Speldiburn volunteers and customers can be warm during the winter months.

The plan includes: -

  • Removal of all storage heaters which will be replaced by air source heat units
  • The addition of extra loft insulation into the old part of the building (the only part with loft space)
  • 40 solar panels added to the roof of the wooden extension
